We’ve developed an action planner to help teachers and schools create meaningful, structured wellbeing activities in classrooms.
Structured mental health initiatives
Supporting positive mental health in schools begins with structured, practical planning.
Our Mental Health Action Planner has been developed to help teachers and schools design inclusive school wellbeing initiatives and activities.
The tool can help raise awareness of mental health, reduce mental health stigma in schools and foster healthy habits among students.
Our resource will guide teachers and school staff through every stage of planning; from setting goals and identifying the main audience to organising activities, and evaluating impact.
The resource is available in both English and Irish languages for use in schools across Ireland.
Using the planner
By using our new resource, teachers and school staff can:
- Plan impactful events: Map out mental health days, workshops or campaigns. Integrate mental health promotion into school policies and repeat successful events
- Engage students: Involve student councils or wellbeing groups in promoting activities
- Collaborate with colleagues: Share responsibilities and plan across departments
- Track progress: Monitor what’s planned, in progress or completed
- Promote inclusivity: Design initiatives for students, parents, staff or the whole school community
- Evaluate impact: Use surveys and feedback to improve future activities.

We hope you will share with colleagues and other schools who may benefit from using it.
Amanda McArdle, Campaign Manager at Walk in My Shoes (WIMS), says: "WIMS is delighted to announce our latest resource to promote positive mental health among young people".
“Our action planner is about more than raising awareness; it's about supporting teachers and school staff to foster a school environment where every student feels supported, valued and equipped with tools and resources to support their wellbeing."
"The new resource will be added to walkinmyshoes.ie alongside a range of existing mental health promotion resources for young people including mindfulness clips, educational videos, self-care planners, wellness activities and more".
