Tuning into mental health

Walk in My Shoes Radio (WIMS FM) - Ireland’s only pop-up radio station dedicated solely to promoting positive mental health - returned to the airwaves from Monday to Friday, 7-11 October 2019.

Tuning into mental health

Broadcasting live from a studio in St Patrick's University Hospital, WIMS FM aired over 70 hours of live programming to mark World Mental Health Day on 10 October.

WIMS FM aims to raise awareness and reduce stigma around mental health by opening conversations and encouraging listeners to take early action by seeking support and, where needed, professional advice.

With the usual mix of lifestyle, culture and mental health features, this year's station included a number of themed shows, focusing on a wide range of topics. From the impact of the never-ending news cycle on our mental health to the mental health challenges facing specific groups of people, including members of the LGBTQI+ and rural communities or those with experience of cancer, these shows certainly had something for everyone.

Our schools special - which proved so popular in 2018 - came back, providing an outlet for primary school-children to talk about what's on their minds, as well as running interactive exercises, book reviews, interviews, and more.

As always, many public figures and professional broadcasters  generously offered their time to come on air and present shows, including our newly announced Ambassador, Kodaline frontman Steve Garrigan. We were also joined by Maia Dunphy, James Patrice, Bláthnaid Treacy, Tara Flynn, Shay Byrne, Sarina Bellissimo and many, many more - not to mention some very special guests along the way!
